Reiss Building and Renovation has been building custom homes with a focus on quality, craftsmanship, and energy efficiency since the early 1980’s. We have also been dedicated to educating our customers about "green" construction, sustainable building practices, and low-energy-load homes since the company started. Our company has been and continues to be actively involved in the development of the Vermont Builds Greener Program which is a state wide voluntary program that certifies homes that have been built green. We have experience in the construction of energy efficient, net-zero energy, super insulated homes, including both passive and active solar homes. We have won numerous awards for our energy efficient construction. We have experience with geothermal and air-to-air heat pumps for heating the homes we build. Because of the insulation levels and air tightness we achieve, we can use solar pv and heat pumps to supply all the energy a home needs. The homes we are building now do not have utility bills. Some actually produce excess energy that can be sold back to the utility.
Equally important focus for the homes we build is the attention to good indoor air quality. We are very careful about air sealing the homes we build, and that necessitates that we provide fresh air to the house. Each one of our homes has mechanical ventilation, with most homes having an air-to-air heat exchanger, which captures a percentage of the heat in the exhaust flow.
In addition to providing fresh air, we recommend building products that do not contribute to poor indoor air quality to begin with. We are concerned about building products that out-gas and products that may prove to be harmful to the occupants. As we build we clearly see our role as one of educators in addition to the group of people who physically put a house together. Understanding what sustainable construction involves and communicating that to our customers is an important part of our work.
We enjoy opportunities to be creative in an aesthetic sense and in ways that can also be cost effective. Our subs have been working for us for many years and share our appreciation for green building and quality work. Our company has built homes as small as 512 sq. ft. Our homes have been featured in Vermont Builder/Architect magazine and in Custom Home magazine. We have won awards from the Northern Vermont Homebuilders Association, the Burlington Preservation Society, the Vermont Energy Star Program for energy efficiency and the Governor's Environmental Excellence Award. Many of our homes have won the Best of the Best Award at the annual Better Buildings by Design conference in Burlington, Vermont. Our careful attention to detail is evident in how our homes perform and in the quality of our work.
In addition to new construction, Reiss Building and Renovation is also a BPI (Building Performance Institute) certified company and has crews to perform Home Energy Audits. We have been involved in improving energy performance for existing homes for many years. Our knowledge of home construction and our attention to the energetics of a home makes us a very effective company for weatherizing existing homes. Our company is dedicated to making all homes as close to net-zero energy as possible. As part of our home energy analysis we will identify all the systems of the house and assess what is the best way for a house to achieve energy efficiency, including: insulation, air tightness, and the potential for renewable energy. We look at the house as a holistic system and perform a comprehensive energy audit.
Thank you for your interest in our company. We enjoy what we do and feel that building can be one of the most rewarding endeavors a person can undertake. Helping you create a healthier home for you and the planet is what our company is all about. If you have any questions or would like more information about our company please feel free to contact us.
